The new Chancellor announced in the Autumn Statement that the alternative fuel payment – for those that don't use mains gas, such as people with Heating Oil, LPG or biomass boilers – will now double from the original £100 to £200. This is separate to and on top of the £400 energy bill support payment virtually all households get on their electricity.
The Government has said this money will come from your electricity supplier and will be added to your energy account as bill credit, but it hasn't said when yet. We believe that it is unlikely to be before the end of January 2023 at the earliest. As we find out more detail on the Alternative Fuel Payment we will endeavour to keep our customers updated.
While the logistic planning of the payment is still being completed, we would recommend that customers continue to purchase heating oil as normal over the coming months.
Please keep an eye on your oil levels over the winter period, so you don’t run out. We would advise ordering your heating oil when you have ¼ of a tank left.
