Frequently Asked Questions - General
How long can you keep Heating Oil?
Heating Oil, Boiler Fuel, Boiler Juice or just plain Kerosene does not really have a shelf
life, and does not normally degrade if the heating oil storage tank is in good
condition. Many customers only order once a year and thus just prior to
refilling, the heating oil in their tank is a year old.
What is the right amount
of heating oil to use to heat my house?
The consumption of heating oil varies
from property to property. Consumption depends on the efficiency of your
insulation, the performance of your heating oil boiler, and the temperature you like
to keep your home. As these vary between individuals, the right amount
of boiler fuel can only be considered at an individual level.
Thus the right
amount is the average for your home. Should your usage vary widely then
you should investigate the reasons for that.
Why does the heating oil
price vary? When is the best time to buy heating oil?
The simple answer is
market forces. In reality the best time to buy heating oil is when you need it, when
you feel the prices are good, and ideally when the demand for oil is
low, e.g. the warmest day in the summer. Demand matches price, the higher the demand for heating oil the higher the price.
Prices also start to rise when
the heating oil season starts in September and carries through to April.
Harsh Winter weather, as we have seen in the UK over the last few years,
has led to unprecedented demand and higher prices. We always advise to
buy your boiler juice early in the season and at the same time arrange a budget payment plan. It is also advisable to make sure your heating oil boiler has been recently serviced. (Boiler Servicing)
