Many people believe that mains gas is the most economical form of domestic heating. However over the past five years the average cost of heating with oil has been consistently less than all other commercially supplied fuels, and in real terms heating oil is actually cheaper than it was 30 years ago.
| Independent analysts Sutherland Associates have been publishing comparative heating costs charts for over two decades, they report that the average cost of space and water heating for a typical three bedroom home in the UK over the past four years varies so much that although LPG is known to be a cheaper alternative fuel in terms of motoring, it costs more than twice as much to heat your home than using home heating oil. | |||
| Safety | |||
|
Heating Oil does not explode and will not burn in a liquid state. An oil leak is not a fire hazard. For oil to burn it must vaporised. Vaporisation will only occur above it's flash point of 140 degrees F. By contrast both natural gas and propane will burst into flames when mixed with air in the presence of a naked flame, and electricity can cause fatal shocks. |

| Efficiency | |||
| Oil heating equipment has substantial efficiency advantages over other fuels. Modern oil fired heating equipment is 15% more efficient than comparable gas fired equipment and over 60% more efficient than electric powered equipment. In addition oil burns hotter than gas and so oil gives you more heat, more quickly, for less money | |||

Environmentally Sound
|
Oil burns more completely and efficiently than other forms of fuel, so heat for heat modern oil burning equipment is one of the cleanest sources of combustion. This clean combustion and efficient conversion of oil into heat means that less pollutants are discharged into the environment. A properly adjusted oil burner produces near zero levels of smoke and of soot. |

| Market Driven Competition | |||
|
Oil users have a large choice of suppliers. There are nearly 400 distributors supplying U.K. customers. Additionally oil prices are market driven and thus prices are market determined rather than supplier determined. With competition for your business and a market driven product oil companies are generally more responsive to satisfying customers needs. |

| Safety First | |||
|
Any product that enters your home must be treated with care. In order to produce heat all energy sources are manipulated by a device (normally your boiler) to convert that product into energy. Heating Oil is one of the safest products in its' natural state, but as with all energy products the danger comes when the product is manipulated in order to be burnt, or by the emission that is generated in it's burning. Properly set up and regularly maintained oil burning systems are very safe, but all homes should have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors fitted to serve as a warning signal of burner malfunctions. Always remember that safety comes first. |
