Oil Fired Central Heating Fuels

Health and Safety Data Sheets

Oil fired Central Heating is a popular choice for value and comfort. Modern oil fired central heating boilers offer high energy efficiency, so more your money goes to heat your house, rather than disappearing up the chimney. For a comparison of the cost of oil heating against other heat sources please see the benefits page.
Two types of oil are used to heat UK homes and these are delivered by Goff Petroleum to customers in East Anglia. Please see our delivery service page to find out more about our delivery service, or place an order for heating oil.
Kerosene is the fuel most often used to heat homes in the United Kingdom. It is available in two different forms, either classification, is 28 second burning oil, and is unsuitable for use in generators or engines.
Regular Kerosene is the cheapest form of heating oil. It carries no duty, and is presently the most cost effective way of heating homes. It is suitable for all known forms of domestic pressure jet  boilers and is used in the majority of vaporised burners such as those made by AGA Rayburn.
Premium Kerosene is most commonly known as blue Paraffin. This is a cleaner form of Regular Kerosene. It is used in environments where the exhaust emissions are not vented outside. As the cleanest form of Kerosene it can have positive benefits for older heating appliances, but is more costly to produce and is thus more expensive to supply, and use, than regular Kerosene.
Gas Oil is the fuel favoured by farmers, for use in their tractors and by commercial customers for generators and industrial heating. It is still used by some domestic customers, running older boilers, but the majority of older boilers have now been converted to burn Kerosene. Gas Oil burns slightly hotter and so can be more efficient as a heat source. However it carries government duty, and thus is always more expensive to burn than kerosene. Commonly Gas Oil is also known as Red, Agricultural, or Marine Diesel. Gas Oil is 35 second burning oil. It is a Criminal Offence to use Gas Oil as a road fuel.
Goff Petroleum will only deliver fuel that meets or exceeds the appropriate British Standard. If we are found to have failed we will exchange any fuel that does not meet these standards.
